About the activity
Macaé de Cima is a valley of slope forest and crystal-clear rivers, about one hour by 4x4 from downtown Nova Friburgo, depending on road conditions.
The walk is easy and rewarding: many species with little physical effort, which makes it a great choice for mixed groups and photographers.
Target species
- Bare-throated Bellbird (Procnias nudicollis)
- Brazilian Ruby (Clytolaema rubricauda)
- Brassy-breasted Tanager (Tangara desmaresti)
- Serra do Mar Tyrant-Manakin (Neopelma chrysolophum)
- Black-and-gold Cotinga (Lipaugus ater), in the upper parts of the valley
- Understory antbirds and antshrikes
Good to know
- Private trip for your group, with a CADASTUR-registered local guide.
- 4x4 transfer on the unpaved road to the valley.
- Early start, when the birds are most active.
