The ordinance formally recognizes rural producers and family farmers who offer tourism activities in the countryside, such as lodging, food produced on the property, farm visits, hands-on farm experiences and the sale of handmade products. With official recognition, these entrepreneurs gain access to public support policies and greater visibility in the tourism sector, establishing rural tourism as a formal activity under Brazil’s General Tourism Law (Law 11,771/2008) and Law 14,978/2024.
In Nova Friburgo and the mountain region of Rio de Janeiro, where rural tourism and nature tourism go hand in hand, this regulation is a great opportunity to strengthen the local economy.
